It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved Enid Wizig, just one month before her 103rd birthday. Her final days were filled with immense love — sharing stories with her unbelievable memory for details and names, and of course, her signature humor and laughter.
Enid was a beacon of light at No Limits for deaf children, volunteering for nearly three decades. A role model to our children — with a hearing loss herself — she was an inspiration to us all. There was no challenge she would not embrace: creating language-based board games, sewing costumes, spell checking our theatrical scripts, and even painting Looney Tunes characters from Bugs Bunny to the Tasmanian Devil on our walls as she was first deaf animator assistant for Chuck Jones. For our kids and staff, she must have made over 1000 handmade stuffed animals and given hundreds of See’s candies lollipops at our graduations just to make others happy. She never missed an opportunity to make an impact.
Enid helped our deaf children shine on stage — and later became the star herself in an original No Limits play written about her extraordinary life, Above and Beyond.
In her nineties, Enid appeared in the No Limits theatrical documentary Silent NO MORE, courageously sharing her personal journey with hearing loss. At age 95, she authored her book, I Never Asked “Why Me” — a must-read — and held a book signing at our Los Angeles Educational Center where lines stretched down the hallway and beyond.
She was truly a shining star — a bright light who taught us to love deeply, be present even in chaos, and live each day with gratitude.
Personally, my son and I were inducted into the Wizig family, receiving the cherished honor of being called “daughter” and “grandson.” Nothing has meant more to me than having her as my “mom.” Knowing Enid and sharing in her life’s journey will forever remain one of the greatest honors of my lifetime.
A world without Enid feels unimaginable, yet all who knew her carry memories that will continue her legacy. In the coming days, you will see much written about her — I encourage you to read it all. Through her story, we learn how to live fully, with purpose, meaning, radiant love, and kindness.
Survived by her beautiful daughter, Lynn, and her son, Jeff, their loving spouses and extraordinary grandchildren, all of us invite you to join us for a Celebration of Life:
